Mary Bookwalter

Hi my name is Mary Bookwalter, and I am very excited to be joining Biking for Babies this year! Born and raised in Northern VA, just outside of D.C., I had the opportunity to attend the March for Life almost every year. I always loved how the March was a very real testament to the value of life and standing up for those most vulnerable. It was not until a few months ago I realized I have always had some access to participating in the culture of life, and no longer have as many opportunities. I first learned of Biking for Babies through my parish priest, Fr. Ed! Even though I thoroughly enjoy riding my bike, I definitely thought this 600 mile challenge was far outside my capabilities as well as my comfort zone. However, every time I came to prayer, this mission jumped to the front of my mind. When I’m not at work as a Nanny, I like to spend time with my nieces and nephews. I have always enjoyed working with children. I understand how much love children can bring to a family. This mission to help pregnancy resource centers be able to help women and families across the country really pulls on my heart strings. I keep coming back to the question of ‘why’. Why do I feel called to join this intense journey? I think maybe it is because I know that what it takes to bike a very long way, is going to be a lot of consistent hard work and sacrifice. Working with kids I know that consistency and sacrifice are at the very root of what is necessary to love them. By joining the National Ride I hope to learn more about pregnancy resource centers as well as reach my fundraising goal! Please join me in prayer and spreading the word of this amazing mission!
