Why am I doing this?

At first, charity was not my main reason for biking, but as I put more and more miles on my bike I realize that charity is the only motivational tool I have.  I don’t always look forward to going on my weekly long rides where I will put myself through some agonizing pain, but when I look back to the deeper purpose of this ride, I see that it is worth it.  I am no longer biking to fulfill my desire for adventure, but rather for other’s desires to live and enjoy life.

Other than biking, I am student teaching at a school district which has several students with children.  Initially, thinking of high school students with children seems wrong, due to the lack of a spouse, finances, responsibility, and time to devote to these children.  Seeing these students can also be encouraging though. Today’s culture pushes students with pregnancies towards abortion, but these students stand against the grain by choosing life.  Seeing these students every day, and the sacrifices they are making to be a parent and a student are very encouraging.  As a student teacher, I often find myself thinking I don’t have enough time to put these extra miles on the bike or do this little task to help promote Biking for Babies, but I just look back to my students and see the sacrifices that they make to choose life.
